The MXRC has been discontinued. However, if you buy a GE ADAPTER, you may upgrade your filter to the newer, improved (and less expensive) GE MWF filter. The GE MWF filter removes more contaminants from the water than the MXRC filter, including mercury, lindane, and asbestos.

The GE SmartWater MXRC replacement filter (sometimes labeled “Water by Culligan“) fits GE, Hotpoint, Sears, and Kenmore refrigerators with a round metal canister filter, typically mounted inside the refrigerator at the rear of the compartment above the top shelf.

The GE SmartWater MXRC refrigerator/icemaker water filter replaces the following older filter part numbers:

Specifications
  • Filter Life: 6 months
  • Filter Size: 5" (Length) x 3-1/8" (Diameter)
  • Country of Origin: U.S.A.
The GE SmartWater MXRC filter cartridge replacement is tested and certified by NSF International to meet or exceed NSF/ANSI Standards 42 and 53 for the reduction of:
  • Chlorine
  • Lead
  • Cysts
  • Particulates (Class I)
  • Turbidity
How to Replace the GE SmartWater MWF
  • Turn the used filter counterclockwise 1/2 turn and pull the filter straight down (The water shuts off automatically so you don’t have to worry about flooding your refrigerator)
  • Fill the new filter with water (You may use cold water from your tap)
  • Push the filter straight up into the fridge and turn it clockwise 1/2 turn
  • If your refrigerator has a “Change Filter“ light, reset it
How to Reset the "Change Filter" Light
  • Press and hold the “Reset Water Filter” button on the dispenser for 3 seconds
