Filter Bags

At All Filters, we offer liquid filter bags in a wide range of micron ratings (filtration particle size) and all standard sizes (#1, 2, 3, 4) so you can find the perfect fit. Our most popular type of filter is glazed polypropylene felt, which is among the best filter bags for water treatment due to its fine filtration capabilities and minimal shedding. You can also choose nylon monofilament mesh or polyester felt media replacement filters, which can both withstand demanding filtration conditions. Our water filtration bags provide heavy-duty filtration for oils, lubricants, organic solvents, paints, acids, alkalis, water, and more.

FAQs on Filter Bags

What are filter bags and how do they work?

Filter bags are open-top surface filters that fit inside a bag filter housing. Liquid enters the bag, passes through the filter media (polypropylene felt, polyester felt, or nylon monofilament mesh) and exits through the housing outlet while particles and/or larger debris are retained inside the bag. They're widely used in industrial water treatment, chemical processing, paint, and food and beverage applications.
Match three things: size (the housing determines whether you need a #1, #2, #3, or #4 bag), micron rating (finer ratings capture smaller particles but load faster), and media material (polypropylene felt for general water treatment, polyester for higher temperatures or chemical exposure, nylon mesh when cleanability and coarse high flow filtration matters).
Lower micron ratings 1–10 capture finer particles and produce cleaner output but require more frequent replacement as they load faster under high-particulate conditions. Higher ratings 25–200 handle heavier contaminant loads with longer service intervals and 300–800 handle high-viscosity fluids. Many bag filtration systems use a coarser bag upstream as a pre-filter to extend the life of a downstream fine-micron bag.
For general water treatment, glazed polypropylene felt is a popular choice for reliable particle capture with minimal fiber shedding. Polyester felt is preferred in higher-temperature applications and wide chemical compatibility. Nylon monofilament mesh suits applications requiring a cleanable, reusable option with consistent pore structure.
Service life depends on flow rate, micron rating, and the concentration of particles in your process fluid. A reliable indicator is differential pressure across the housing. When pressure drop increases significantly, the bag is loaded and needs replacement. In lightly loaded systems a bag may run for weeks, while heavily loaded industrial applications may require daily or weekly changes.
