Great filter for NYC drinking water

We have great tap water in the city, with the exception that it's chlorinated, sometimes heavily. And with the possible exception that the building you live in may have old galvanized pipes, caked with rust and decades of silt. We have such old disgusting pipes, so our water, while being perfectly safe, tastes terrible.
This filter removes all the bad flavors and all the sediment. The water tastes pretty much like it did when it left the pristine reservoirs in the Catskills.
When the filter's new, it adds just a hint of sweetness to the water. Maybe because the charcoal comes from coconut shell? I don't know. But it's very subtle, and tastes fine. This disappears in a few days.
The first time we bought this filter, we tried to see if we could get a full year out of it. The pressure stayed pretty strong, but after about 9 months, we started to notice those not-so-great flavors creeping in. So now we replace every 6 months.
We used to use Britta filters, which had to be replaced once a month, and over the course of a year cost more than five times as much as these. And now we have drinking water on tap, which is a major upgrade.
We tried a similar filter that had finer filtration (1 micron?) and stopped using it, partly because it reduced the water flow too much, and partly because it made the water taste flat. It tasted like the minerals were being removed. This shouldn't be the case (carbon shouldn't filter minerals) but it's how it tasted.

Great filter

I installed this filter over 30 days ago and so far so good. The GE brand filters that I have bought in the past barely last 30 days before the odor of the water becomes an issue. This was not the issue a couple of years ago; however, I think the manufacturers cut back on the amount of activated carbon to cut costs. I got so tired of it, I decided to try this filter from allfilters and am pleased with the results. Hopefully, I get two months out of this filter. If all goes well, i'll be a customer for life.
