With DI water, all the salts and minerals are removed, so although they are not suitable for drinking water, deionization filters are ideal for the following applications:
- Aquariums: DI water doesn’t contain any harmful minerals or contaminants, so it’s an excellent choice for aquariums. However, it can remove beneficial nutrients, so it’s important to remineralize water before putting it in your fish tank.
- Countertop RO systems: If you need extremely pure water, DI filters are ideal for countertop reverse osmosis (RO) systems because they remove nearly all TDS.
- Spotless car wash: Using cartridges that provide deionization is an effective way to achieve a spotless car wash. Normal tap water contains dissolved minerals that get left behind on a car’s surface when it dries, causing spots and streaks to form on the exterior. Deionization filters remove these minerals from the water, so there’s nothing left behind when it evaporates.
Deionized water filter cartridges can be used for various other applications where extremely pure, mineral-free water is needed. These include equipment cleaning, preparing foods and beverages, CPAP machines, humidifiers, and misters.
